Moving Meditation - Honoring Spirit

Recently, we moved into a new home - well, new to us. In many ways, everything about this is new. My entire life I have lived in rural environments, and now I find myself cohabitating with neighbors and constant activities going on outside and around me. My home has become my safe space as it never was before, a place for me to hide. Fortunately, there are some Spirits and Entities here with me. All of these changes and processes have me thinking quite a bit about different aspects of my spirituality and my life. I thought it was a good topic to discuss the importance of the spirits that are all around us and how they affect and influence everything from our lives to our relationships. I have always been a firm believer that whether you are an atheist, a Christian, or a spiritualist, there is undoubtedly energy at play in all of our environments.

There are so many things in this world that are not explained. Sometimes that's because we subconsciously don't want to accept that there is something larger than us out there. For many of us, we see these things, whether large or small, as signs that we are going either in the right or wrong direction.

I try to live my life by the guidance of these deities, spirits, or even the ghosts that linger near. All of them play a large part in my day-to-day way. I try to make a point to wake up every day and thank the spirits, even the dark ones, even the malevolent ones. In fact, I've spoken on this so many times that much of my greatest success has come from working with what many consider blacklisted entities, demons, and other darker beings, Asmodeus (Asmoday) being my favorite cohort in much of my spiritual journey, with great success, I might add.

I just finished a small ritual. I had no real intent at all. I simply set up my candles, my bones, and my stones and did a little Scrying with no real direction except to let what would be, be. Sometimes that is my most fulfilling part of my spiritual practice - simply sitting with myself and whatever spirits are around me, feeling their presence and entering a deep trance or total relaxation. That to me is gratifying all by itself. It often leaves me with such an overwhelming contentment with my life, no matter what is actually going on around me.

After my little ritual, I returned to my yoga mat for the third time already this morning, put on some shamanic healing drums, and began moving my body with the music and sometimes against it. Just movement for the sake of movement is the most healing, amazing feeling. Tuning yourself in to your different muscle groups and the way that they work together, how your breath aligns with each rotation and each flex - physical strength, flexibility, and overall fitness have always been extremely important to me. And it's not just for the aesthetics of it. In fact, it's more for the enlightenment of it. We all manifest an incredible amount of energy inside our body, energy that can either help or hinder our journey.

Even people who do not meditate or practice yoga, but perhaps go to the gym or enjoy running, will tell you that they find a meditative state when they are deeply immersed in whatever activity they are doing. That is because our bodies are our most powerful form of meditation. In fact, many yogis and spiritualists refer to this as moving meditation. And if you are a person like me who has a very hard time sitting still, closing your eyes and meditating in a practical sense, a moving meditation might be something that would be beneficial for you because it is very easy to forget that you're trying to meditate when you immerse yourself in movements. Before you know it, you have reached that level of tranquility and trance, and sometimes if you're lucky, enlightenment that you were seeking when you were trying to just find this in silence and stillness.

If you think of tribes throughout human history, a lot of their celebrations, their honoring of their gods and goddesses, and general daily practices involved moving and dance and drums, and those are all extremely beneficial to not only the body but the spirit and the mind. It is also a beautiful way to honor the spirits in our lives because they respond so well to that type of music and activity. It's an absolutely beautiful experience that everyone at some point in their lives should attempt, and for many, once they embrace this type of physical dynamic movement, they often never look back. They never again seek out seated meditation because it is so much easier and more freeing and more fulfilling to meditate in this way and to connect to the spirits in this way.

And I do understand that it can be a little difficult to get into the routine of physically getting up and intentionally moving, especially if you're not someone who is in the best physical shape or you're not someone who appreciates exercise and fitness, but it doesn't have to be about that. You don't have to have a perfect body and you don't have to have a super fit body to be able to move and benefit from that.

So if you are considering other ways that you can seek connection to the spirits, guidance from the spirits, and enlightenment and meditation, it's a very good idea to consider moving meditation. There aren't really any instructional videos on such things outside of yoga and maybe some dance classes. It will have to be something that you find yourself. It will have to be something that you seek out. Once you step into it, it is so easy to stay in it, and it becomes harder and harder to come out of it because it is such a beautiful place to remain. What begins as 5 or 10 minutes easily becomes one hour. And after a while, your physical appearance will begin to be a reflection of the connections you are making to your higher self. It is all balance and alignment. Grabbing, and then letting go.

Be Blessed,

Dena

Rewriting the Dark: Hekate in the Age of Comfort | From Blood to Bouquets: Hekate's Image in Modern Witchcraft

Recently, I mentioned a Facebook group post I had come across in which a young “witch” was expressing her concern for her friend using naughty baneful Magick. And so, naturally, she needed to know how to tattle-tale to the great Hekate, in hopes this peaceful Deity would punish her for her wicked ways. Come the fuck on. There are many Gods and Goddesses who are systematically being transformed into fluff bunnies. However, poor Hekate seems to be the most utilized victim of this injustice. And she is taking a huge hit in the reputation department to pander to this new wave of “baby witches” who seem to need weighted blankets and someone to hold their hand to simply wake up in the morning. Hekate is not a nature Goddess of safe darkness and theatrical dark romance. The true history of Hekate is far from the sanitized, benevolent image presented by many in contemporary spiritual circles. She was not a gentle guide or maternal protector, but a formidable and feared deity associated...

The Trad Witch Kitchen: Easy Banana Blueberry Bread - There is Magick in Everything We Do.

The Trad Witch Kitchen: Easy Banana Blueberry Bread Welcome back to The Trad Witch Kitchen ! I created this series because I truly believe that every aspect of our life is ritual and Magick . Our Spirituality doesn’t begin and end at the altar. When we live each moment with intention—whether we’re sweeping the floor, tending the garden, or baking bread—we align ourselves with abundance. Whether you work closely with Spirits, honor Deities, or simply dabble in Magick, remember this: you manifest through action and the subconscious. A clean home, a nourished body, a lovingly prepared meal—these are all sacred acts. For me, baking is a form of meditation. It centers me. There’s something so deeply fulfilling about making delicious food from ingredients I’ve grown myself or sourced ethically. And when I leave offerings to the house Spirits, Entities, or even Demons I find they carry even more power when they’re made with my own two hands—from herbs I’ve gathered or bread I’ve baked. ...
