There is a special kind of magic that settles over the Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp, a small, historic community tucked away in Volusia County, Florida. Founded in 1894 by trance medium George Colby who claimed his spirit guide, Seneca, directed him to this land. Cassadaga remains the oldest continuously active religious community of its kind in the Southeast, a place often called the "Psychic Capital of the World." It is a community built on the belief that the veil between worlds is thin, a place where mediums still practice and the possibility of communication with the departed is a living faith.
On the grounds of this unique haven is Horseshoe Park, and within it, the whimsical and deeply personal Fairy Trail, a short, winding footpath I visit several times a week. Adorned with countless small, heartfelt trinkets, statues of gnomes and fairies, and creative art installations, this trail serves a dual purpose: it is a place to honor the elemental spirits of nature, and just as powerfully, a quiet sanctuary where visitors, like myself, leave items and memorials to remember and connect with loved ones who have passed. Many believe that offerings to the trail Fairies bring you good luck. And, just as many know that you should never take anything from this sacred space. It isn't just a moral guideline, it is actually posted on the sign at the entrance.
This is where the old spiritualism of Cassadaga meets a new, charming tradition, and I'd like to share a collection of photos from my latest walk through this enchanting space.
